From widening participation and raising awareness to solving problems and thinking differently - winners in this category will have made a significant impact on the student experience in the last year.

How to nominate

Suggested nominees: Nominations are strongly encouraged from winners and nominees from students’ unions own Union, Sports and Volunteer Awards and Student Led Teaching Awards.

The NUS Awards 2014 are now open for you to enter and nominations close midday on Wednesday 7th May 2014. Judging criteria for each award are detailed below.

Criteria

The following judging criteria are used for all awards in this category.

1. What are and how can you demonstrate levels of student participation in activity across the past year?
2. What successes have been demonstrated in the past year?
3. How have these contributed to an outstanding year and what examples of improvements have been made have contributed to this?
4. How have resources been used most efficiently and innovatively to meet objectives and how can this impact be demonstrated?
5. How has the activities of the group or individual improved the student experience in the past year?
6. What other activities have benefited the student population or the wider community?


The following criteria will be used in the judging of the specific awards below;

Student Media of the Year

1. What measures have the media outlet sought to meet its objectives and target audience?
2. How has the media outlet been used to campaign and raise awareness of student issues, what impact has this made?
3. How has the media outlet encouraged students on non-media courses to contribute?

Student Journalist of the Year

1. How has the student journalist taken information and converted it into high quality and compelling content on their chosen media outlet?
2. How have they made a positive impact to the student population – this can be through the content of the stories they have covered or from their dedication to student media?
3. What journalistic competencies and skills have they shown through their work?

Academic Representation Award

1. What were examples of problems faced by fellow students on courses and how did the representative system contribute to solving these problems?
2. Highlight innovative structures and new thinking as well as campaigns or projects that were used to promote and achieve an increase in participation.
3. What outstanding positive impacts have been made on students’ experience and how do these contribute to the system being worthy of recognition?
