shane-chowen-editedShane is the Policy Officer at the Institute for Learning, the professional body for teaching and training practitioners in the further education and skills sector. IfL’s membership includes teachers and trainers from across the whole FE sector in a range of roles from full time college lecturers to voluntary community education tutors and work based learning assessors. Shane’s role is to engage with members on policy issues that have an impact on what IfL members strive to do – deliver the very best teaching and learning. Recently, Shane has been working on ways education and training in youth custody can be improved and has produced resources for IfL members on the development of traineeships. He has also recently completed the first stage of initial teacher training in lifelong learning.

Shane is Toni Pearce’s immediate predecessor as Vice President (FE) for NUS and is also from the South West, having served two years as the first sabbatical President of City College Plymouth Students’ Union after his A levels.
